01 How the standard changed

One Axis Became Two

Earlier ANSI Z359.14 sorted self-retracting lifelines into two classes on a single measure — stopping distance and arrest force. The 2021 update replaces that with two independent questions: how the device is used, and how it handles clearance and edge exposure.
