Thirteen Questions, Four Phases

The order matters. Material and form can only be decided once the work, the site and the duty are known — deciding them first is what produces a stand that fits the budget and not the job.

Fixed, Mobile, or Adjustable

The single most consequential answer in the sequence, compared on the five axes the article itself uses. Adjustable is the hybrid — stand-alone as a mobile unit, or attached to a stationary stand.

Steel or Aluminum

Material follows from strength, durability, machinability and upkeep — which is why it sits at question twelve, not question one.

Carbon steel costs less than stainless but needs periodic painting or coating; stainless and galvanized resist corrosion and need only periodic cleaning. Galvanized stands should be inspected regularly to confirm the zinc coating is intact.

Who Regulates Your Stand

OSHA applies broadly. Beyond it, the governing body depends on what you operate — and a stand can fall under more than one at the same time.

Ask the manufacturer whether their production processes adhere to the relevant standards — not just whether the finished product claims compliance.
